Sustainable Nutrient Management in New Zealand Agriculture

Developed in conjunction with the Fertiliser Association of New Zealand (FANZ), two courses are offered for the accreditation of advisors responsible for safe and effective nutrient management. The 'Intermediate' Course is offered in two options - Pastoral Agriculture and Orchard and Arable Production.

An Introduction to New Zealand's Agricultural Green House Gas Emissions and Management

Developed in conjunction with DairyNZ, AgResearch, New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre and MPI, this course presents New Zealand’s agricultural GHG emissions in the context of their contribution to global emissions and climate change. An introductory understanding of the GHG source/sink from the carbon and nitrogen cycles in NZ farming systems is developed, with an emphasis on pastoral and forestry systems.  The online study material, short course presentations and use of Overseer Nutrient budgeting software will introduce the practitioner to the skills required to develop emissions reduction plans for actual pastoral farming enterprises.
The contact course, workshop discussions and participant presentations will expose the rural professionals to the latest in GHG mitigation research for pastoral and arable farming.

Farm Dairy Effluent: System Design and Management

Developed in conjunction with Dairy NZ, a course is offered that is is relevant to industry practitioners, rural professionals, regulatory and governance personnel and scientists engaged in providing advice relating to the design, management and auditing of farm dairy effluent (FDE) systems.

Advanced Soil Conservation

Regional Councils in New Zealand have recognised that soil conservation practices play a key role in the development and implementation of Farm Environment Plans to reduce the impact of farming and forestry on water quality.

In response to ongoing demand and following extensive consultation and support from Regional and District Councils, as well as industry collaborators and professional bodies, staff of the FLRC have developed a Professional Development short course targeting rural professionals.
